How to Make Your Home Smell Cleaner Than It Is
We've all been there: the mad-dash 15-minute speed clean before guests arrive. We hit the major zones: countertops, tables, bathrooms. But what to do about those... smells? You know- the ones YOU might not detect anymore, but your guests definitely notice.
Here's a guide to making your home smell like you just finished spring cleaning.
1: Attack those kitchen odors
Meet your two new best friends: BAKING SODA and WHITE VINEGAR. Pour some baking soda into a bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, then poke 5-8 holes in the plastic wrap. Place the bowl in the refrigerator to absorb malodors. Use a washcloth and white vinegar to sanitize and deodorize your refrigerator doors.
2: Freshen up your garbage can
At least twice a year- it's time to bite the bullet and give your trash can a deep clean. Use hot water, a sanitizing spray and paper towels to clean your can. Then, add a stack of dryer sheets to the bottom of your can before you add another bag. These sheets help absorb future malodors.
3: Refresh your bathroom
Pour 1 cup of white vinegar in your toilet bowl. Allow this to sit for 5-7 minutes, then scrub stains and flush. The vinegar cleans and deodorizes your toilet. Always keep a wax warmer and some wax melts (we love cucumber & lemongrass blends, like Spa Day) in your bathroom to keep the scents fresh.
4: Wash the linens
Washing bedding, towels, and other household linens can definitely get rid of old, musty scents. For an extra scent boost in your home, add 3-5 drops of your favorite essential oils to scent your laundry.
5: Add some clean smelling wax melts to your warmer
There are certain scents that just make your home smell cleaner. Our most notorious clean-freak scent:
Lemon Macaron. Trust us- if Monica Gellar had a wax warmer, Lemon Macaron would be in it all year round. Scent notes of lemon and sugar fight those overdue lingering odors and make your house smell freshly-cleaned.
Or, if you prefer your home to smell like fresh laundry, try Spring Cotton. This scent has notes of cotton blossom and linden flower, which give it a wonderful, 'sparkling' throw.
